Wonder Woman (84) Review
Wonder Woman made waves as the biggest theatrical hit both directed by a woman and starring a female action hero, and expectations are high for the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984. This time the setting shifts from World War One to the recent past of 1984, as Wonder Woman faces a new battle against the backdrop of the cold war between America and the Soviet Union.
Now, the incredibly popular and historic comic book character of Wonder Woman comes to life in the S.H.Figuarts series! Let’s take a sneak peek at the action figure.
This incarnation of Wonder Woman first appeared in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, sharing the climactic battle with Batman. The following summer, she appeared in her own film, 2017’s Wonder Woman. She is deservedly the most famed of the female heroes of American comics.
In the fall of 2017, the DC hero ensemble film Justice League marked her third appearance. Partnering with Batman she anchors the team as its most powerful member, once again proving her mettle in battle.
Now she is poised to make her fourth appearance in Wonder Woman 1984, and S.H.Figuarts is releasing a faithful action figure portrayal of her appearance from the film.
The figure faithfully captures how her costume’s tiara differs from its appearance in Justice League. The leather straps used to secure her weapons in Justice League have been dropped as well, as seen in how the Lasso of Truth attaches via a hook integrated into her armor, for a more streamlined style. The armor plating is finished with replicas of the damage sustained over her long history of combat.
Metallic colors are used throughout to bring out the gorgeous fine detail. To capture the power of her bracelets, strong enough to deflect bullets, they are finished in gleaming chrome.
Her head has been re-sculpted in even more detail, perfectly capturing the beauty and fearlessness of Diana as portrayed by actress Gal Gadot. A subtle and realistic skin tone, created using Tamashii digital coloring, captures her on-screen appearance to bring the figure to life. In addition to a straight-on expression, an optional “sharp look” face is included as well to assist in capturing dynamic poses.
When you think about Wonder Woman you think action, and this figure works exceptionally well with the Tamashii EFFECT series (sold separately).
Wonder Woman’s trademark all-out sprint is one of her most famous action moves,
and careful placement of Tamashii EFFECT wave and wind options around the figure can really heighten the impact of that kind of pose.
Wonder Woman is famed for her jumps, leaping through the air as though weightless, then powerfully slamming to earth. Tamashii EFFECT impact parts can be used to replicate these sorts of scenes. You can also re-create shots of her dropping from a great height to the ground. Add in wind effects to further enhance the appearance of her walking away from another dramatic landing!
Wonder Woman’s classic crossed-gauntlet defensive pose is powerful enough to deflect bullets, and Tamashii EFFECT parts can really enhance displays by highlighting her stance and power. Combine the burning effect to amp up the drama even more. And the shockwave from crossing her bracelets is yet another trademark move you can re-create with careful arrangement of Tamashi EFFECT wave and explosion parts!
The figure includes a newly sculpted Lasso of Truth designed for a variety of arm poses and other combinations for dramatic display possibilities.
The Tamashii EFFECT thunder set is perfect for replicating the scene from the trailer in which Wonder Woman leaps and cracks her lasso with a burst of lightning.
From crouching to twisting to sliding poses, the highly articulated action figure lets you re-capture all the drama from onscreen.
Wonder Woman’s stylishly simple design and her huge array of action moves makes her one of the American comic book world’s greatest heroes. Now you can enjoy her power for yourself!
